Eastern Star tonight at Edwards Wins Trophy Fred Edwards won the Tryon Country Club championship tro phy Sunday in a 37-hole contest with Dr. W. T. Linn of Inman. Edwards was four up on the first 12 holes; then Dr. Linn was 1 up at the end of 18 holes. Linn won the 19th hole and Edwards was 2 down; they halved the 20th. Ed wards took the 21st and 22nd to tie up the game again and the con test was nip and tuck with Ed wards 1 up after the 35th hole-. Dr. Linn tied it again on the 36th hole. Edwards won the 37th, hole play-off and the championship. He retains the trophy in his perma nent possesion, being the first player to win it three times. In the first flight champion ship Peter Mahler who was out of town defaulted to Charles Willard; A1 Bowen who was ill defaulted to Jack Craig. In the third flight G. Rubini lost to Joe Kerby 1 up. HOSPITAL NEWS Patients admitted to St. Luke’s Hospital over the week end include Mrs. Paul Kuykendall, Tt|yon; Mrs. Cling Burrell, Tryon; Will Cabe, Lynn. Mrs. Claude Slayton of Rt. 1, Tryon and Mrs. Edward Littlejohn of Tryon were dis charged. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Capps of Lynn are the parents of a girl born Sept. 19th at 4:45 a. m. Vining Jr. Walnut wrapped up the foot ball game Friday night at Har mon Field when Cline Roberts of the visitors intercepted a Jim Ballew pass late in the 4th quar ter and raced 80 yards for a touch down. David Blackwell made the extra point on a line plunge to put the visitors ahead 7-6. After Ronnie Ross of Tryon had returned the opening kickoff to the locals 43 yard line, a Ballew to Thompson pass went all the way for a touchdown, but Tryon was guilty of clipping on the Walnut 30 yard line, thus nulifying the score. Early, in the second quarter, Ross blocked a Walnut punt and Tryon recovered on the visitors 18 yard line. From there the locals drove to the 9 yard line where they had to give up the ball on downs. After picking up one first down, Walnut was stopped short of another and Tryon took over on the Walnut 29. After two passes fell incomplete, Danny Edwards made a beautiful catch of a Rallew pass^ on the 5 yard line and went into the end zone for the touchdown.
